The amazing Big Buddha or Giant Buddha, Lantau Island, Hong Kong / Favourite image no. 1

As you can see it is quite magnificent, sat atop a hill and all you will be thinking about is do I want to climb the 268 steps ( yes, 268 steps ) to the top?

The simple answer is yes you need to, the steps are easy enough if you go slowly and the views from the top are quite lovely. I simply do not care that people like to call the place touristy, as of early 2018 I have been there well over 150 times and I just love going there, even on a rainy day and even if it is crowded.

You do NOT have to be a Buddhist to appreciate what is there, you do not have to buy anything in the gift shops and by golly it is very photogenic.

Personally I stay away from the Veggie restaurants at the Monastery, I find the food to be very bland and very blah and lacking in taste (but it is cheap), there are plenty of food options in the Ngong Ping Village, 5 minutes walk from the Giant Buddha.

The Buddha appeals to all ages, kids love it as most days there are lots of wild cows (very tame) just wandering around, step 268 is an essential "must take a selfie shot" stop and eating an ice cream whilst surveying the Giant Buddha up close and personal (plus the surrounding countryside) is a little surreal and a great experience for all ages.

Naturally I will be able to take you there on one of my award winning Private Tours of Hong Kong.

The amazing Po Lin Monastery next to the Giant Buddha / Favourite image no. 2

Awesome ~~ there is simply no other word to describe the Po Lin Monastery Main Hall, although I have never quite been able to reconcile that Buddhism is all about poverty and charity and then they build something like this., oh well.

You need to remember that there are two Po Lin Monasteries, the old and the new and the new one is 3 or 4 times the size of the old one and is BEHIND the original Monastery.

As far as I am concerned this is a must see place despite the time it takes to get there and despite the tourist hordes, I call it the 10th wonder of the World.

Premium Private Hong Kong Tours

The NP 360 Cable Car to the Giant Buddha, Lantau Island, Hong Kong / Favourite image no. 3

A lovely experience as long as you do not have an issue with heights, the 25 minute ride on the cable car is simply stunning.

The one thing I never do is buy or book in advance online as this commits you to taking the cable car on that day and there could be a 100 reasons why this can be a very bad idea!

I simply do this most of the time, I go to the Big Buddha by blue taxi or bus and come down on the cable car in the glass cabin, you simply only need to see the views once as it is the same view both ways, up or down + you save a lot of time and money doing it this way.

When it comes to getting to and from the Buddha the need for flexibility on transport options is a big thing, you do not want to be stuck in long lines for hours....

.... and if you are not doing this with me as a private tour then you need to check online that the cable car is running, they have a lot of scheduled maintenance days and the cable car tends not to run on very rainy days or in thunderstorms and high winds.

Oh my golly gosh, the simply amazing Pagani Zonda Absolute - this is a custom made car and is rumoured to be the only one of it's kind in the world and it is in Hong Kong!... oh... and yes, this is my picture, talk about being in the right place at the right time.
